Descrizione Tendo Mutale and Mwila Bwalya first meet as rivals. Over the next decade, the two boys from Kaputa grow into men — through secondary school and the corridors of the University of Zambia, through dormitory rooms and boarding houses and the specific intimacy of shared desks and Thursday lunches and conversations held in the dark after the lights go out. Tendo finds his calling in the law courts and the unrepresented people who walk into them without language for the process. Mwila finds his in the structures that must hold — bridges, foundations, the careful distribution of weight across everything that stands. Together and separately, they fall in love, make mistakes, lose things, and build toward the lives they were always going to build. But in the final year, a single accusation — made by the person they least expect, about the person they trust most — puts everything at risk. The evidence points one way. The denial points another. And the friendship that has survived rivalry, betrayal, failure, and five hundred kilometres of distance must now survive the one thing it has never faced: the possibility that it was built on a wrong conclusion.
