Our exploration is firmly anchored in the 1611 King James Version of the Bible, a translation revered for its faithfulness and poetic strength. This sacred text provides the unassailable foundation upon which we will build our understanding of authentic Christianity. We recognize that while the gift of salvation is bestowed upon us without merit, the stewardship of that salvation, the active pursuit of holiness, and the faithful adherence to Christ's commands require a deliberate commitment and, frequently, a significant personal cost. This is the essence of true discipleship—a concept far removed from a passive or transactional approach to faith.
From its very inception, the Christian movement has faced opposition. The Book of Acts vividly portrays the Apostles, empowered by the Holy Spirit, yet thrust into the heart of conflict, imprisonment, and public condemnation. This pattern was not an anomaly, but an integral aspect of their ministry, mirroring the very path of their Master. Jesus Himself warned His followers that "if the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you" (John 15:18). This inherent antagonism between the Kingdom of God and the systems of the world is a recurring theme that we must confront.
Throughout history, countless believers have demonstrated the profound implications of this truth. From the martyrs of the early church, such as Polycarp and Ignatius of Antioch, who willingly faced brutal deaths rather than renounce their Lord, to the reformers like Martin Luther and John Calvin, who endured excommunication, exile, and threats of violence for the sake of reclaiming biblical truth, the tapestry of Christian history is interwoven with threads of suffering and steadfastness. Even figures from the Old Testament, like Job, who faced unimaginable loss for his integrity, or Jeremiah, who was imprisoned for delivering God's unwelcome message, serve as powerful exemplars of faith tested and proven.
