"Take these cups to..." Jane broke off abruptly as she saw one of the delicate china cups shatter on the kitchen floor. The three women in the room looked down at the floor. The one who had caused the chaos was completely horrified by what she had done. "Oh, Jane, I'm sorry," Paula moaned. "I don't know what came over me." I'll pay for it, of course. "Don't be silly, Paula," Jane replied. There was a time, not so long ago, when an accident like that would have sent Jane into a panic attack. The money that would have to be paid for a piece of china like that would reduce the profit she would make from serving that dinner. And she could accept the cost of a loss like that without considering it a disaster. Besides, if the dinner was as successful as Felicity Warner had hoped, Jane doubted she would be worried that one of her cups had been involved in an accident. "Bring the cups," Jane replaced the broken cup with another. "Rosemary will bring the coffee, and I'll take care of cleaning this up." She squeezed Paula's arm affectionately before she and Rosemary left to serve coffee to the Warners and their six guests. Jane almost laughed at the sight of herself with the dustpan and broom in her hand. For the past two years, the time she had been dedicating to her exclusive service catering, she had gone from working alone to being able to hire people like Paula and Rosemary to help her serve. However, she thought as she found herself on her knees picking up the broken china, some things never changed. "Dear Jane, I just… Jane?" Felicity Warner had just entered the kitchen and stopped abruptly when she saw Jane on the floor. "What happened?" Jane stood up with the dustpan in her hand. –I'll refund you the price of the mug, of course, and… "Don't even think about it, dear. After tonight, I hope to buy a new dinner set and get rid of these old things." These old things were delicate pieces of Chinese porcelain that must have cost a fortune. "So the dinner was the success you hoped it would be?" Jane asked politely. "A complete success!" Jane laughed happily. "Dear Jane, after the wonderful dinner you served tonight, Richard is going to divorce me to marry you." Jane's professional smile didn't even waver, although the idea of remarrying, even to a man as charming as Richard Warner, was repugnant to her. Still, she was glad things were going well for the Warners. They'd agreed to have her cater dinner at the last minute, a job Jane had been able to accept thanks to the cancellation of another service in her busy schedule. From what Felicity had told her, her husband's business hadn't been going well these past few months. And the pleasant couple certainly deserved a change in their fortunes. Although it was the first time Jane had cooked for Felicity, she had been very kind and affectionate toward her. In fact, they had chatted all evening. Felicity had made her aware of the importance of this dinner to them. She had shared all her fears with her, to the point that Jane felt she already knew the entire family intimately. "Of course, no one has said anything explicitly," Felicity continued, excitedly, "but Gabe told Richard that he would like to meet him first thing tomorrow morning in his office." "She smiled with pleasure. "And I'm sure this wonderful meal has done the trick." She looked at her conspiratorially. "He told me he never normally eats dessert, but I convinced him to try your wonderful white chocolate mousse… And he didn't say a word while he wolfed it down! By the time he finished, he was so relaxed that as soon as Richard asked him to meet up tomorrow, he agreed."
