HIS SKIN prickled with goosebumps. And suddenly, despite having been dancing in his grandfather's enormous mansion for two hours, he shuddered. Pia Vito knew the temperature had nothing to do with it. She was quite hot, and even the breeze coming through the ballroom balconies was warm. But she felt a chill anyway, and at a most telling moment: when he entered the room. Raphael Mastrantino. His grandfather's godson and protégé The president of Vito Automobiles. The man that all of Milanese society was talking about. The women standing next to her turned to the newcomer and ogled him while praising his many virtues. And no wonder. He walked as if he owned the property and everyone present; he was so charismatic that he commanded everyone's attention, and if that weren't enough, he looked magnificent in a tuxedo and white shirt. Pia hadn't been at the mansion for long. She'd arrived in the summer, shortly after discovering she had a grandfather and being recognized as a granddaughter. Since then, Gio had done nothing but tell her stories about Raphael Mastrantino. And from what she could see, he wasn't exaggerating at all. Just then, their eyes met. It was like an electric shock, or rather, as if an electric arc had formed between them, a subject he had been discussing in his physics class. I couldn't find enough adjectives to describe him. Broad shoulders, narrow hips, long legs, and a face with such sharp angles that it seemed were carved in stone. He was so masculine that she had to make an effort to keep the smile on her lips and pretend to be relaxed. However, Raphael didn't greet her, and she was shocked to realize what was happening. Gio's godson didn't approve of her. But why? Whatever the reason, Pia lowered her head and headed for the exit, trying not to look at him. Suddenly, she bumped into something hard. It was Raphael's chest, which made her curse herself and raise her head again. How could he have intercepted her? He wasn't even on her path when she decided to leave. Pia found herself under the scrutiny of the darkest eyes she'd ever seen. However, that didn't bother her as much as Raphael's closing of his hands on her wrists. It wasn't an aggressive touch, but it wasn't gentle either. He was clearly trying to prevent her from escaping. His scent and his proximity made her blush, which she couldn't control. She'd never felt comfortable around men. She wasn't very good at the subtle and refined language of flirting, which all her female colleagues seemed to know—or at least, all the young teachers. She was so shy that it had taken her two months to even speak to Frank, her last boyfriend.
