That mortal is Dr. Dylan Owenth, a pragmatic physician who rejects all notions of "magic" in favor of empirical science.
Their uneasy alliance is quickly complicated by the brutal truth of their connection: the Blood Price. Every use of Neroanna's magic consumes a portion of Dylan's life force, making their growing proximity a countdown to his death. As they are pursued by the vengeful forces of the exiled King Ares and captured by the technologically advanced mortal Secret Society,who plan to sacrifice Dylan to power their own devastating ritual,the pair is forced into collaboration.
Through frantic translation of stolen Xerxoan texts, Dylan uses his anatomical and linguistic skills to confirm his theory: the Immortals' power is not divine decree, but highly volatile, forgotten technology. They realize their own bond, the Fated Pair Protocol, is the only non-lethal grounding solution for the Shard.
In a desperate climax, Neroanna rejects her mother, Queen Eira, and the thirst for power. Combining Dylan's surgical precision and her own ritual mastery, they execute the Superior Science,a complex counter-ritual that stabilizes the Second Shard and, miraculously, converts the lethal Blood Price into a sustainable Fated Heal.
