What happens when you wake up next to the love of your life—and don't remember falling in love with him at all? Emma Martinez opens her eyes in a hospital bed with no memory of the past two years. The devastating car accident erased everything: her marriage, her career pivot, and most heartbreaking of all, the man sitting beside her bed with love and anguish written across his face. Liam calls himself her husband, but to Emma, he's a complete stranger. Now Liam faces an impossible choice: let Emma go and give her the freedom to rediscover herself, or fight to make her fall in love with him all over again. As Emma struggles to reconcile the life she thought she had with the reality she's living, she discovers pieces of herself she never knew existed. The girl who played it safe is gone, replaced by a woman who took risks, chased dreams, and loved with reckless abandon. But reading about passion isn't the same as feeling it. Can you build something real on a foundation you don't remember creating? SAMPLE READING - CHAPTER 1 The steady beep of monitors was the first sound Emma registered. Then pain—a dull throb radiating through her skull, sharp enough to make her wince but not quite unbearable. Her eyelids felt heavy, weighted down by exhaustion that seemed to permeate every cell in her body. When she finally managed to open her eyes, harsh fluorescent light made her squeeze them shut again. She tried once more, slower this time, letting the brightness filter in gradually. White ceiling tiles. That antiseptic smell she'd always associated with hospitals. The scratchy texture of sheets against her skin. "Emma?" A voice, deep and rough with emotion. "Emma, can you hear me?" She turned her head toward the sound. A man sat in the chair beside her bed, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees. Dark hair, slightly disheveled. Strong jaw covered in several days' worth of stubble. Eyes the color of whiskey, currently glistening with unshed tears. He was beautiful. And she had absolutely no idea who he was. "I—" Her voice came out as a croak. The man was on his feet instantly, reaching for a cup of water on the bedside table. He held the straw to her lips with a gentleness that seemed at odds with his athletic build. "Small sips," he said softly. The water helped. She managed to swallow, then took another sip before pulling back. "Thank you." Something shifted in his expression—relief mixed with something that looked almost like pain. "You're welcome." He set the cup down carefully, his hand trembling slightly. "Do you know where you are?" "Hospital," Emma said. "Mount Sinai. You were in a car accident three days ago." He sat back down but kept his body angled toward her, as if he couldn't quite bear to look away. "Do you remember what happened?" She tried to think back, searching for the memory. There was nothing. Just a blank space where recent events should have been. "No. I don't remember any accident." The man nodded, like he'd expected this answer. "That's okay. The doctors said you might have some gaps. Do you remember anything from before? What's the last thing you recall?" Emma closed her eyes, mentally retracing her steps. She'd been at her apartment near campus. And before that—her chest tightened as the memory surfaced. The coffee shop near the library. Nate sitting across from her, his face carefully neutral as he explained why it wasn't working. She opened her eyes and looked at the beautiful stranger claiming to be her husband. "Who are you?"
