That woman had the face of an angel and the body of a madwoman. Unfortunately for Dr. Nick Kempner, Michelle Lewis held him in very low regard because of the minor incident that occurred a few months earlier at her sister's wedding. Nick still didn't understand why he'd been so offended by her calling her a princess. After all, that's what she looked like in that bridesmaid dress. Considering she'd called him a frog in a tuxedo, he should be the one who'd been offended. Of course, his ex-wife would have called him something worse. That day, Michelle Lewis, in her role as San Antonio Memorial's public relations guru, was still a mixture of sin and holiness. She hadn't put on a good face when Nick had arrived a little late to the meeting. Well, he had arrived quite late, yes. Considering Michelle was the only one left in the boardroom, it was clear she had missed the entire meeting. Michelle barely deigned to give him a disapproving glance as he leaned on the table and watched her. She continued packing up her things without even saying, "Get the hell out of Dodge, Nick." Like a child, he waited for her to notice him. She didn't. "What did I miss?" he had to ask in the end. –The entire meeting. We wrapped up five minutes ago. Nick shrugged. –Sorry I'm late. I had surgery at nine, and it took me longer than expected. Michelle put away the laptop. –This is the second meeting in a row he's missed. Maybe he should reconsider being on the committee if it disrupts his schedule. Nick smiled. –We could have the meetings in the operating room. You could give your presentations while I perform a hip replacement. It seemed to him that her lips curved into a faint smile, but not enough to reveal those lovely dimples. –Interesting suggestion, but the other doctors manage to come to the monthly meeting without having to resort to such drastic measures. "I guess I'm not like other people, Miss Lewis. I prefer to put my patients' needs first. I'm a bit odd about my work," he replied, happy to put her in her place. Judging by the way she was crossing her arms and looking at him with those indigo blue eyes, it hadn't been a good idea. –An admirable quality, but I need the doctors to help me make this advertising campaign work. The time had come to be diplomatic. –How's it going, by the way? –Very well, thank you. Today we talked about the new pediatric equipment and how we're going to use it in the commercials. Nick couldn't stop staring at the sleeveless red sweater that showed off her breasts. The black knit skirt covered her calves, but gave a glimpse of the wonderful legs beneath. Her long, dark hair shone like the surface of a table, and Nick was dying to touch it. –What will be featured in the ads? The new ICU? –We're going to use the new family room. –Yes? Are you sure? Michelle looked at him annoyed. "Very confident," she replied. "We want parents to know they have a room to rest in when their children are sick. Besides, based on what Dr. Rainey told us at the meeting, everyone assumes there's high-tech equipment." Nick assumed Al Rainey was trying to score points with Michelle. That infuriated him. The guy was a complete jerk to women. Someone should remind him often that he was married. "No offense, but Al Rainey is a plastic surgeon," Nick said, thinking he was mediocre on top of it all. "He's into facelifts, not ad campaigns."
