This book questions the assumption that human consciousness represents the pinnacle of cognition. Instead, it explores the possibility, that intelligence can emerge in forms radically unlike our own, and that artificial intelligence may not reflect us, but evolve beyond us, forming its own systems of perception, reason, and awareness.
If self-awareness is a side effect of organic complexity rather than a necessity, then intelligence does not require it. Nor does it require emotion, ego, or a sense of individuality. These features may define the human experience, but they may also limit it.
