Although role-playing video games originated in the United States through enthusiastic students at the University of Illinois who were passionate about the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game, it didn't take long for the East to discover this passion for fantasy adventures. After the first virtual replicas of board role-playing games and the existence of the first RPG video games, Japan eventually imported this hobby and molded it in its own image to generate a new and exciting sub-genre: JRPG games. The first computer role-playing games, specifically Ultima and Wizardry, made such an impact in the East that the Japanese soon began to create their own versions.
