She was a gatherer, her days spent navigating the ancient trees, collecting herbs and fruits for the village healers. The Lumina, embedded in the very roots of the woods, hummed a constant, subtle melody, a sound so ingrained in her existence that she barely noticed it.
One evening, as the crimson sun dipped below the horizon, casting long, dancing shadows, the Lumina's hum shifted. It became a discordant whisper, a tremor that vibrated through the very earth. Elara paused, her basket of herbs heavy in her hand, and listened. A cold dread crept into her heart, a feeling she'd never experienced before. The air grew thick, and the familiar, comforting glow of the crystals flickered, dimming like dying embers.
From the depths of the woods, a chilling wind swept through the trees, carrying with it a voice, a dark, rasping whisper that seemed to slither into her mind. 'The light fades…' it hissed. 'The balance is broken…'
Elara dropped her basket, the herbs scattering across the forest floor. Fear, sharp and cold, pierced her. The Lumina crystals, the lifeblood of Aethelwood, were weakening. And with them, the very essence of her world was threatened.
That night, Elara's dreams were plagued by visions of shadows, of twisted figures that extinguished the Lumina's glow, leaving behind a barren, desolate landscape. She awoke with a start, her heart pounding, the dark whispers echoing in her ears. She knew, with a certainty that chilled her to the bone, that her life was about to change. The Lumina was calling, and she had to answer."
