Working judiciously between the families is stressful for an old man whose time left on earth seems short, and only gets shorter as the days go by.
In his despair, he contemplates giving up the fight, however, a hidden romance blooming between the daughter of one, and the son of the other captures his attention.
Albert, a wise and elderly philosopher, sees this as a chance to resolve the conflict. He
moves between their family homes and the places where the young couple ventures, trying to
mend old wounds and foster a new beginning.
With each step, he faces challenges but remains steadfast in his belief that love and understanding can heal even the deepest divides.
This fantasy story celebrates the power of love, persistence, and the impact one determined individual can have on the lives of many.
He had both studied and taught abroad – until his father had told him to come home. One day, very early in the morning during the dry season, at the rising of the sun, the old man sat under the enormous oak tree that stood and is still standing in the middle of the Tanin city garden, watching the world going by, and playing his flute, the tune from his flute created harmony in the ears, heart, and soul of those who listened to it. One morning, the old man woke up so early, after watering his plants, he went to the garden which was one of his daily rituals in those days. There, he met with the man whom he called a hater. The hater passed by, pretending not to have seen the old man, the man looked at him, smiled, and nodded. So, instead of continuing with the tune he was playing, he started calling the hater's name with the flute, dancing and shaking his head, and then the hater turned and greeted the old man, lying that he wasn't aware he was there. Instead of arguing with the hater, the old man asked him; "have you ever wondered why beggars and fundraisers sing, play music, and dance on the street these days, rather than simply stretching their hands, and asking for alms"? "No" The hater replied. Then, the old man told the hater that it was because the world had become so loud, you have to shout the loudest to be heard or noticed and further explained to the hater that it didn't matter the kind of noise you make that the inhabitants of the world of today would like it, even if you displayed a foolish spectacle morning, afternoon, and night under the rain and sun, that people would leave their houses everything they are doing, to watch someone display foolishness. In my days, the old man continued, no one did that. "That, was why I called you with my flute". The old man said and began to discuss with the hater. From his discussion that day with the hater the old man realized that the ancient battle he thought was long over, was just about to reincarnate.
