Using the God-breathed, timeless words of Jesus Christ from The Lord's Prayer as a simple framework for intercessory prayer, grandparents will discover how to pray specifically for their grandchildren's protection, spiritual growth, and daily needs – one verse at a time.
With this goal in mind, readers are led through a series of prayers using the three distinct lenses of the Inductive Bible Study Method: Observation, Interpretation, and Application.
While looking through the "Observation" lens, readers will first pray through each verse in Matthew 6:5-13, by answering the question, "What does this verse simply say?" For example, the Word of God found in Matthew 6:5b states, "Do not be like the hypocrites." To turn the answer to this question into a prayer, grandparents are led to simply pray, "Heavenly Father, I bring my grandchildren before You now and pray they never become like the hypocrites Jesus is describing in this verse."
Next, readers are led to pray through a series of prayers viewing the same text through the lens of "Interpretation", answering the question, "How can I pray the general meaning of this verse, in context, over my grandchildren?" An example of one such "Interpretation" prayer for Matthew 6:5b reads, "God, may my grandchildren understand a person's actions might be right but their attitude – the hidden person of the heart – may be far from You. May my grandchildren understand this was the very danger Jesus was warning His disciples against."
And finally, viewing the same verse but this time through the lens of "Application", grandparents are led through a series of heart-felt prayers, answering the question, "How can my grandchildren apply this specific verse in their lives?" While the possibilities for "Application" prayers are endlessly personal, readers are given several prayers to consider, such as, "Father, I ask you to guard my grandchildren's heart against the sin of pretense. Don't let them become a person whose public prayers are nothing more than a grandiose stage performance, seeking to merely teach or impress an audience of men, rather than be heard on high by the Holy God to whom they are addressing."
Readers will discover the prayers of this book are comprehensive enough to challenge and encourage older saints, yet simple enough for a child to comprehend.
