"Baldo (Baldomero Ruiz Navarro) is a great soul. Someone who taught me a lot. He is full of life, and so is his book. I loved reading his biography. It was, for me, a great learning experience, a representation of raw life full of adventures and eroticism, at the beat of an exciting thriller. I am sure it will be a bestseller."
Prof. Dr, Iype Cherian, Neurosurgeon, India.
"It hardly seems possible that a person could have fitted so much into one lifetime and reinvented themselves so many times, but this is indeed what Baldo has done, and his story is neither predictable nor conventional. After numerous twists and turns, Baldo's path leads him finally (or maybe not?!) to his Himalayan idyll in Nepal, where he is at peace, knowing that he has lived his life to the full, and been fortunate enough to have experienced a great love. Baldo's story both inspired me and moved me to tears at times. It is honest and sometimes confronting, but never ever dull! I warmly recommend you read it yourself."
Michelle Bliss – English teacher, London.
"Do you sometimes have the feeling that you are missing something important in your life? Is everything too staid and just not exciting or inspiring? Baldo Navarro's autobiography is the proof that another kind of life is possible. Being born in Casablanca to an unwed Jewish refugee mother – herself the daughter of the Minister of Culture of the erstwhile Spanish Republic – sounds like the beginning of an unsettled life, and it was the author's starting point. Now, at the end of his life's path, he tells his story of what transpired from this unusual beginning. It is the story of 80 years, with a broad vista, via twenty-six countries in Europe to Israel, and then through India to Nepal. On the way, he encounters many people, many of them women, and one of them the love of his life, Marianne. Baldo attempted being as completely honest as he can, without omitting shameful facts, even the darkest and most intimate ones. Among others, he includes details of his encounters with women that know few, if any, boundaries in the telling. As he says of himself, he does not honour any taboos or restrictions. The story of his learning and education phase, his adult professional phases, his loves and his wanderings are a smooth and easy read that can leave the reader surprised by how simple decisions and strong determination work to aim for what might seem to be impossible goals. It is a fascinating story of how human life can be lived outside the beaten paths and boundaries of bourgeois forms, as long as a basic love of humanity is your personal guiding precept. As Baldo writes at least twice: "In Socialism, I believe."
I can recommend this autobiography for its rather novel take on an old theme: How I did, what you didn't. Baldo's story is more than a bit daring at times, but just as often tender, and in it, even the temporary failures often turn out to lead to a better condition. The reader does not have the impression that the tale is being told to boost one man's ego, but rather to affably relate that life can be lived happily and lovingly in ways that most people don't.
It could be that this story could move one or the other reader to explore entirely different perspectives – which, I am certain, would be exactly what the author intended."
Dr. Karla Schmidt, American novelist.
