The land of Jammu and Kashmir, often described as paradise on earth, has been a theater of conflict, intrigue, and geopolitical contest since the partition of India in 1947. Among the most sensitive and contentious issues born out of this turbulent history is the matter of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK)—a region whose identity, fate, and rightful place have been at the center of regional and international debate for decades.
This book, The Truth Behind POK: History, Conflict, and the Path Forward, is a humble attempt to unravel the complex layers of history, politics, and human struggle associated with this long-disputed territory. While much has been written and debated about Kashmir, I felt a pressing need to present a comprehensive narrative that focuses specifically on POK—its origins, the circumstances leading to its occupation, the lives affected, and the geopolitical consequences that continue to ripple through the subcontinent.
In these pages, I have tried to chronicle the historical background of the region, analyze the series of events that led to its occupation by Pakistan, and examine the role of international powers and organizations. Beyond the recounting of history, this book also explores the human dimension of the conflict—the displacement of families, the denial of rights, and the enduring spirit of those who continue to hope for justice and reunification.
This work also delves into the present-day realities of POK, often overlooked in mainstream discourse, and outlines possible pathways toward a future where peace, justice, and dignity can be restored to the region's people. The aim is not merely to recount the past but to provoke thought, encourage dialogue, and inspire informed awareness about an issue of national and humanitarian significance.
